Ju Hee Shim was born in South Korea and came to Mexico 35 years ago. She couldn't speak Spanish and always walked around with a bilingual dictionary in her hands, drawing her routes on a piece of paper. Over time, she learned to substitute certain elements of Korean cuisine with products available in Mexico City.
She learned to combat homesickness and to keep her culture alive through food. She built her home, raised her daughters, Jin Hee and Seo Ju Park, and helped her husband, Sang Kwon Park, with his businesses.
2020 shook lives, stances were rethought, and things that hadn't received enough attention were dusted off. Seo Ju and Sofía Acuña, friends for ten years, saw their projects put on indefinite hold at the start of the pandemic. On one of those nights where gin flowed freely, they began to imagine ways to bring Seo Ju's family's gastronomic heritage to life in the city. This is how Mamá Park was born, a reference for food made with love.
